The tables are numbered so if someone shifts one around to get a bigger group together, then it can go wrong. The one time our drinks went astray was when we sat at a table someone had moved. But every other time it was a really great, simple way to get your drinks - definitely recommend. We used it a lot - drinks turned up within 10 minutes, and only went missing once (we went up to the bar and got a refund). A second app (not sure why it can’t all be combined into one, but it’s a small inconvenience) lets you order drinks and food straight to your table. The fact that all the shows attract a queue speaks to how entertaining they are.Īs mentioned there is an app which lets you find and book shows and events as well as giving you other vital information about the resort. Those who don’t book join another queue that goes in after everyone else.Of course just one of you has to queue - then dash in and bag your table, the others can turn up just before the show starts. We did for one show and ended up perching on the stairs. When you look at shows on the app it will tell you to turn up 15 minutes before the start - don’t do that. Doors open 30 minutes before the show so you won’t be queuing long.Ĭharacter meet and greets are part of the experience If you’ve booked - and you should, as everyone else does - then you still need to turn up 45 minutes before the show starts and join the queue if you want to bag a great seat. Trouble is, everyone can and does book - and booking just gets you in, rather than guaranteeing a table, chair or location - so, there isn’t actually any point to the system as far as I can see. So when I saw that Butlin’s has introduced a booking system I thought ‘great! No more queues’. You’ll still see what’s going on but you may be sitting on high stools, or one of you may have to stand. If you don’t queue for shows - particularly at Centre Stage - the chances are you could struggle to get seats together and will probably be towards the back of the venue. It isn’t that you won’t get in, it’s that you need to queue to get a good seat, all of you together, close to the front of the stage. But I couldn’t figure out the point.Īs I say we’ve been going to Butlin’s for years and the one constant is that people have always queued to get into the shows. The one thing that baffled me is the booking system - you can, if you want, book to go to the shows either on the Butlin’s app or at one of the help desks. (I admit, I was more excited than I should have been to actually see Optimus Prime) But we weren’t sure what we’d find for our older family.

Many of the shows and activities are geared around school-age and pre-school children, with popular TV characters like Peppa Pig and PJ Masks. Butlin’s has been providing traditional UK family holidays for more than 85 years, and from previous experience, we knew there was plenty for younger children - so this was an exercise in finding out if Butlins works for all familes. We picked a long weekend at Butlin’s Minehead, one of three resorts in the group, with the other two in Bognor and Skegness. The best thing about Butlin's is how much is included in the price - so when you get there you can pick and choose what you want to do, to suit your family. When your children reach a certain age just getting them out of their bedroom can be a challenge.īut we went ahead and booked, and to be honest we needn’t have worried - they both thoroughly enjoyed the break and found plenty to keep them happy and entertained.

We’ve been talking the children to Butlin’s since they were in pushchairs and they always loved it, but having missed a couple of years thanks to travel restrictions and with the two of them now well into their teens (14 and 18) we weren’t sure it would work for us this year.
